My Carport...

Under construction...no-no not the carport! - this webpage!

Sometime during the Summer of 2006, I sketched my idea of how and where to have my new carport...
As you will see from the following, my sketch became reality...It consists of two parts, the open front,
where I park my car, and the smaller, closed part with solid foundation...from the very beginning, I
planned that this should become a real building, and not just a bare workshed with concrete floors...
I finished most of this myself, lofts, insulation etc., but also had some assistance putting up walls, laying
floors, and, of course, installing electric power...this building is absoultely indispensable in my daily life...
My actual house is the striped building and it is quite precisely oriented North-up, South-down, East-right
and West-left...My woodshed is built as a prolongment of the carport, and with my greenhouse, these buildings
offer me real good shelter from the dominating, and occasionally very strong western winds...

The original first sketch...

The first materials were delivered August 10. - 2006

The work began August 12. - 2006

August 13. - 2006...Floor insulation in place...It started raining...
Luckily the concrete had hardened enough to stand it...

On August 17. - 2006 the concrete floor itself is being molded...

September 1. - 2006...Topping-out party with workers and neighbors...

September 1. - 2006...

Parking for the first time under roof
in my very own carport...YES!!!

September 8. - 2006...door and window mounted...

September 16. - 2006...door and window painted...by me!
The workers did their job, got their pay and went home...
- now the rest is up to me in the Spring of 2007...

Phase 2...Summer 2007...Some, at least for me, complicated tasks ahead...

It's now July 7. - 2007...I pushed this work I guess, and enjoyed the Summer...
First I must do, is closing the opening between the carport and the 'workshed'...
- Dealing with the crossbeams on photos 2 & 5 took all the carpenter skills I didn't know I had...
But after a couple of days of hard work, measuring, sawing, thinking and screwing, the workshed
was a closed room on all 4 sides, and constructing the lofts and doing some details could begin :-)

Well...Rome was not built overnight, neither was my carport...and today, towards the end of 2011,
there are still little odds and ends I'll want to attend...I started painting it April 24. - 2008...hard work,
even the side facing West would have to wait yet another year...That was done while painting my woodshed...

Phase 3...Summer 2008...Time to turn the interior into an inviting guestroom...
This I began doing on July 29. - 2008, by stacking everything from there into my carport...

Most of the insulating 'Rockwool' mats
I did put up myself, yet my good friend
Morten Wittrup helped me well, by
stringing those up that went in the
ceiling... - ''Muchas gracias Seņor!''

January 26. - 2009...walls and floors in place - my guestroom is now liveable...

Wall-to-wall carpet...
The carpet was laid on
May 11. - 2009...

Victorian brassbed on antique
Kelim carpet...I had to 'tailor'
the wood bottom of the bed...
The bed now has a fine new spring
mattress with top, and is now the
best bed in the World, according
to my mother...

May 24. - 2009 - I prepared the powercables, and the electrician will do the connections etc. later...
The power is actually fetched from the far end of my house, because the new installation, will need
a separate circuitboard and fusebox...such installations are for pro's only! - Besides, it is unlawful to
'mess' with these types of installations for amateurs...it is too complicated, too dangerous, and a faulty
installation may very well void the insurance in case something bad happens...

Finally, on October 15. - 2009,
I could install light, and electric
heater, a fridge and much more...

Now, as of July 2011, my guests can watch dvd movies, or listen to music on the stereo equipment...
and after renovating a ladder in September 2011, the more agile can access the lofts...one of which
has a wonderful 20cm (9inch) super mattress...the other loft, I, so far, keep for storage etc...

I made this page on December 20. - 2011...
